Printer Setup for FM2 in Windows

08/23/2000

Problem:  "My FM2 reports will only print at shutdown or after my pc is restarted."

This is a very common problem when using FM2 under Windows.  It can be remedied by disabling the send-to-spooler option in your Windows printer control panel.  In addition, you may be required to set your default printer to capture the contents of your LPT port.  View the images below to modify.

1.) Start -  - Settings - Printers

2.) Right-Click your Default Printer - and select Properties.

3.) Click on the Details tab.

4.) Click on Port Settings and clear the Spool MS-Dos Print Jobs option.   See below image:

Disable Dos print jobs going to Windows spooler

5.) If you are using a shared network printer you may also have to configure your windows printer driver to 'capture' the contents of your printer port (LPTn).  This is accomplished by following the same steps as above except instead of clicking on the port settings button, you will click on the 'Capture Printer Port' button.  Insert the path to the network printer and select whether you wish this connection to be made again at next logon.

Capture LPT port contents

Special Notes:

A.) If you wish to disable this capture you must perform it from this menu using the 'End Capture' button.

B.) In addition, depending upon your printer, you may also be able to further tweek Windows to increase your printer's speed.  By selecting the 'Spool Settings' button you may have options available to bypass the spooler and enable bi-directional support.
